We are often asked about our curly hair services and what a typical appointment consists of here at Meraki Hair Salon. Here is our blog on what a curly hair appointment includes.
CONSULTATION
Whether it’s a cut or colour we will always begin with a thorough consultation, especially if it’s your first appointment. A consultation can be booked ahead of any service. It’s a great way for you to meet Louis, have an honest conversation and see if you’re the right fit for each other.
You’ll usually go over the history of your hair, routines, difficulties and goals. From here we’ll formulate a plan of action and advice tailored to your individuals needs in and out of the salon.
CUT
A curly cut is a bespoke service. The majority of curly cuts are performed on hair dry, cutting curl by curl, with minimal combing and absolutely no thinning scissors! Unlike most haircuts, that are done on wet hair, using tension and sections, this one focuses on the overall shape and how the hair lives and moves on the head in its most natural state. This way of cutting also helps preserve length and avoid shrinkage.

CLEANSE AND HYDRATE
All cleansing in our wash house is done with curl friendly products. We Only use products free from sulphates, silicones and parabens. This is also an essential part of the service as it promotes hydration and curls need to hydrate.
FINISH
Your curly haircut will always include drying with a diffuser as standard. If you would like it setting or something more specific this can be discussed and added to the service.
AT YOUR APPOINTMENT
On the day the stylist needs to see your hair as close to natural as possible, so please adhere to the guidelines below.
Please arrive with cleansed, dry and detangled hair. Product free is preferable but if you need to use some keep it to a minimum. A little curl cream or leave in conditioner is fine. Please DO NOT use oils or butters on the hair as they can weigh the hair down and can act as a barrier
Avoid tight hair styles that pull the hair tight and out of shape. Nothing high and tight. No buns, pony tails or braids. No Heat!
** There will be an additional charge for extremely long, thick or tangled/knotted hair**
Please be realistic. Every head of hair is different and timings can vary. Trust the process.
